• Gartner said worldwide smartphone sales totalled 32.2 million units in the second quarter of 2008, up 15.7% from second quarter last year. Smartphones remained at 11% of all mobile phone sales.

• Smiths Interconnect subsidiary TECOM Industries and German antenna developer QEST Quantenelektronische Systeme GmbH plan to jointly build and sell antennas for in-flight connectivity. QEST‘s will supply RF components such as the antenna aperture and signal processing modules and TECOM will supply systems engineering.
