FirstNews Briefs: Radisys, Shentel, Bango, Centina

By Diana Goovaerts | May 10, 2016

Radisys Corporation has introduced CellEngine TOTALeNodeB+, the next-generation of its TOTALeNodeB LTE small cell software.

Based on 3GPP Releases 11 through 13, TOTALeNodeB+ delivers small cell software for mobile operators’ 4.5G and 5G deployments. The software allows mobile operators to select and trial advanced features.

Radisys’ TOTALeNodeB+ supports the 3GPP LTE-Advanced roadmap with advanced features. The initial software release includes support for carrier aggregation and LTE-Unlicensed (Pre LTE-LAA) functionality, with plans to support LTE-License Assisted Access (LTE-LAA) inline with operator deployments. The next release of the software will add support for additional LTE-Advanced features, including Enhanced Inter-cell Interference Coordination (eICIC), LTE WiFi Link Aggregation (LWA), Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP), and enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) to deliver enhanced interference management and better performance at the edge of the network. TOTALeNodeB+ is platform independent with integrated support for all major SoCs, such as Intel or Broadcom hardware, providing further customer choice.

TOTALeNodeB+ is available today and being utilized in customer trials in China and other regions.

Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) announced it has completed its acquisition of NTELOS Holdings Corporation (nTelos), a provider of wireless communications services in portions of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. Shentel is a local company that operates as a Sprint Affiliate and will be using the Sprint brand name to offer service in the former nTelos service area.

Originally announced in August 2015, this transaction more than doubles the Shentel wireless customer base and further strengthens and expands its partnership with Sprint. Now that the deal has closed, nTelos customers will be given access to the Nationwide Sprint 4G LTE roaming network free of charge. Shentel has also committed to spend approximately $350 million as part of the expansion of the network.

Bango, a mobile payments company, announced it has acquired BilltoMobile, a U.S.-based carrier billing service of Danal Inc., for an initial consideration of $3.5 million, including $3 million in cash, to be paid immediately, and $500,000 in Bango shares. Deferred consideration, which is expected to be $35,000, may become payable in cash in first quarter 2017 depending on the performance of one revenue stream. In addition, Bango will pay certain fees in connection with the acquisition which are expected to amount to $215,000 and relate to the migration of services from Danal.

BilltoMobile is currently the only operator service integrated into all four major U.S. Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), covering over 300 million connections. It processes carrier billing payments for app stores and major merchants including Google Play and Microsoft. BilltoMobile services processed approximately $80 million of End User Spend (EUS) in 2015, making it the largest carrier billed payments processor in the U.S. by volume.

Centina Systems, a provider of strategic service assurance and advanced analytics, announced its vSure SDN/NFV assurance platform has been integrated with Viptela’s SD-WAN technology. The integration of these two solutions enables enterprises and service providers to visualize and monitor SD-WAN services from a single console.
