MVNO FreedomPop today introduced a new unlimited talk and text plan that will run $4.58 per month.
That price translates to about $55 for a year’s worth of service, equal to or less than a typical monthly rate on most large carriers, according a press release from FreedomPop.
In addition to the new plan, FreedomPop added a $169 Samsung Galaxy S2 to its device portfolio. The company said that since launching its free phone service in October last year, it’s signed up almost 500,000 people to the beta invite list and added a “bring your own device” plan to accommodate the demand.
FreedomPop’s Galaxy S2 doesn’t support LTE and none of its other current phones do either—the company’s devices use Sprint’s EV-DO and WiMax networks. But FreedomPop expects to start selling LTE handsets later this year.
In addition to the new unlimited talk/text plan, FreedomPop will continue to offer its free phone service plan that includes 500 MB of data, 500 text messages and 200 anytime minutes. All plans start with 500 MB of free data.
