T-Mobile: 600 MHz LTE Service Now Includes More than 900 Communities

T-Mobile says the LTE service based on its 600 MHz spectrum now incorporates more than 900 cities and towns across the U.S.

The carrier’s footprint for its 600 MHz Extended Range LTE includes 32 states, officials said, and 120 of those communities are now experiencing the company’s LTE service for the first time.

T-Mobile began rolling out its 600 MHz service — after acquiring billions in licenses in the April 2017 spectrum auction — last summer.

“The team is working at record pace to deploy 600 MHz LTE throughout the country, and we’re already expanding the network and challenging the Duopoly in places they’ve never had to compete before,” T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray said in a statement.

In addition, the company said 600 MHz LTE service will expand to Puerto Rico this fall.

T-Mobile said hurricane damage in the territory — which knocked out communications on the island for weeks and, in some locations, for months — provided an opportunity to build a “better than new” network on its 50 MHz of spectrum holdings in Puerto Rico.

Its LTE network in Puerto Rico, like those in dozens of additional U.S. cities, will be built with equipment that can be upgraded to support 5G technologies.

“We’re laying the foundation for the island to become a technology and innovation hub in the future while adding coverage and capacity with 600 MHz LTE this year,” Ray said.
