T-Mobile is acquiring 700 MHz licenses from Actel, a subsidiary of CenturyLink.

The 12 MHz licenses (698-704 MHz and 728-734 MHz) cover markets in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana and New Mexico. As TmoNews points out, the licenses cover about 6.1 million POPs.

The transaction is for spectrum only and does not include exchange of any other assets. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“The assignments from [Actel] to [T-Mobile] will yield clear public interest benefits by allowing [T-Mobile] to expand its 700 MHz footprint and thus offer improved services to its customers, thereby enabling Assignee to become a stronger competitor in the markets relevant to the Licenses and nationwide,” T-Mobile wrote in an FCC filing.

T-Mobile has been busy bulking up its 700 MHz holdings in the interest of supplementing its AWS LTE network. Last week, the carrier acquired 12 MHz of 700 MHz A Block spectrum from I-700 A Block, LLC, an investment company. Earlier this year, T-Mobile paid Verizon $2.4 billion and gave the carrier some AWS and PCS licenses in exchange for 700 MHz A Block spectrum covering 158 million POPs.
