Verizon Wireless customers could be in luck when it comes to overseas roaming on LTE.
According to a report from Reuters out of Mobile World Congress, Verizon expects to sign its first international LTE roaming agreement later this year.
Verizon Wireless Chief Technology Officer Nicola Palmer has reportedly told Reuters that while Verizon currently has over 200 overseas partnerships for 3G roaming, the company has yet to land an LTE agreement due to lagging deployments by other carriers.
Palmer says 4G roaming will “take a while” but confirmed that at least one such agreement is in the works. She declined to name the partner.
In a fourth quarter earnings call, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said that the percent of Verizon Wireless’ customer base operating on LTE had grown from 16 percent to 23 percent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2012.
